Misty Copeland (born 10 September 1982 in Kansas City, Missouri), is an American ballet dancer. She is a dancer for the American Ballet Theatre. She joined their Studio Company in 2000, the corps de ballet in 2001, became a soloist in 2007, and was promoted to principal dancer in June 2015 - becoming the first African American women to have this standing in the ABT. Having started ballet training late in life as a 13 year old, she is considered a prodigy. She is a celebrity spokesperson endorsing many companies such as Dr Pepper, Under Armous, T-Mobile, and Seiko watches.
